| | Subject: | Daily tofu 'shake' for breakfast - is it healthy? | |
Date: | October 30, 2005 at 3:48 am PST |
Hello there, I am currently living in Japan and therefore have access to a wide range of soy-based products - something of a cheap convenience food for this British vegetarian. Before my shower each morning, I drink a homemade tofu 'shake', consisting of a 350g packet of 'momen' (semi-firm?) tofu and one banana. These two basic ingredients are pureed together the night before, along with enough water to fill the blender container, and the liquid mixture is chilled overnight in the fridge. With limited time in the morning, I believe such a breakfasts offers a healthy start to the day, which typically features a fruit-based lunch and raw vegetables in the evening. Am I correct? Do you have any suggestions? I would often use tinned fruit in the smoothies also, however given that it is near impossible to buy inexpensive tinned fruit that is not packaged in syrup here, have decided to cut down on this practice. Thanks, James
