I think chinese buddhaism approach is very reasonable. They can eat milk but not egg.
Chinese culture doesn't cook nor bake with milk often or at all. Therefore you are techniclely
are 98% vegan if you are strict chinese buddhist. However, Egg can be find in most of the
cake and ice cream. Its not okey to eat egg in chinese buddhism but its fine to eat cake and
ice cream and also milk, but within temple ususally don't have this type of the food. They
don't eat vegetable like onion, green onion and garlic for other reason. I think chinese
buddhism has the best approach to vegetarism. Remember, chinese buddhism are the only
religion in the world have keeped beening vegetarism for 3 thousand years(think how much
animal they saved). They are vegan 98% of time but they are awefully close. If you believe this
way, you have done the compassionate to many animal being like buddhist believe. Vegan is
a compassionate belief, but I don't believe is a necessary must however is good to have.

In buddhist believe, Vegan you will earn great great karma, but a true vegetarian (no anykind
of animal) will earn almost nearly good as karma while you still able to enjoy ice cream.

For those are vegan out there, I love you guys more then anything, that is the best way. I
think we should focus change people's mind from eat meat to vegetarian instead of
vegetarain to vegan. I think that make more sense. Let the fate (buddhist belief) lead the
vegetarism people to become vegan. Instead make those people are vegetarian feel awkward,
we need focus the people are eating steak rather then ice cream. I myself are vegan, but i
believe on fate.

As i would said to you emily longer as you don't go backward, you are just fine. Its not
nessary to give up everything. Oneday, vegan may become you life style, but don't force
youself into it. Because vegetarism is a great great effort already.

Thank...
Bless to all the vegan and vegetarist

Donald
