Subject: any natural alternative to chemical hair dyes?

I would like to know if there are any natural alternative to chemical hair dyes. I've heard of and tried henna but it did not work. I have black hair and tried black henna. It did not cover the gray like they say it is supposed to do. Does anyone know of any other natural alternative?
