I take a B complex vitamin about 30 minutes before going outside and it helps a lot. Without it, they eat me up. Here's a recipe for a lotion that also helps, although it's sticky.

Homemade Mosquito Repellent

1 cup unscented lotion
1/2 teaspoon lavender oil
1/2 teaspoon tea tree oil
1/2 teaspoon citronella oil (optional)

Mix all ingredients thoroughly and apply to exposed skin.

Finally, I burn a stick or two of incense near me. Any scent at all will do, it's the smoke that the mosquitoes dislike.
