because you are NOT just choosing a husband for yourself, you're choosing a stepfather for your children. If he's in your life, he's in their lives. Don't ever delude yourself that you can separate the two.
and it's good that you are aware of your own issues in making good choices in people.
one thing you know: just as the women depicted in porn are not what real women are like, don't assume the male behavior there is what real men are necessarily like. Don't forget that porn is designed to pander to the lowest, most depraved forms of human behavior - not the norm.
Go for counseling. Really. It doesn't mean you're ill, it means you want to become more aware of the choices you make and how you make them, so when you do get into a relationship, it will be what you really want - you won't wake up one day thinking, "how the heck did I get into this?"
