The bride got the shower because housekeeping was her responsibility. In today's world, people rarely marry straight from their parents' homes; they've usually had places of their own, hence also have stuff, and often they've been living together already. If that's the case here, these people are grownups, presumably have jobs and probably also have towels and toasters. They don't need a shower. The groom's mom seems to think they do; in that case, tell her to save it for the baby shower later.
