Sorry to split hairs, but these two statements (yours) seem to contradict.
You were married for a very long time, and in my opinion it is OK for the kids to not be loving the new arrangement.
I suggest that you focus more on the kids than your new flame, who by the way (by your description) doesn't exactly sound like a barrel of fun.
Things take time, and I think that down the road your children will recover from their trauma. Right now they sound like they are just being kids, and I fail to see the problem with THEM.
