Thanks for your comments Keith and Cedar! We had actually bought the blinds ourselves, so no cost involved for him. In other words there is no reasonable basis for him to behave the way he did. He was in fact doing this during his working hours so he was being paid double - the hourly wage he earns from the building (which is also paid by the assessments we pay the building) and also the additional side income from us. Well, it turned out that a simple phone call after allowing a couple of days of cooling off fixed the issue. We explained how it was a misunderstanding and that there were three of us who confirmed the amount (plus the fact that we would never have agreed to pay $30/blind when the normal charge around here is $15!) and he seemed to remember that there were initially 6 blinds, etc. No big deal right? But it did give me a good warning for the future. I will never fix a deal without putting it in writing! Oh and I have not paid him yet (he will collect the check tomorrow), but I am not feeling up to giving a tip this time due to the manipulation attempt by refusing the money.... surya |
