Hi Surya
I don't know about curry powder but with garam masala almost anybody can tell the difference between freshly made and store bought masala. Then you can play around with the proportions of the different ingredients and it tastes completely different.

It is true that it isn't worth the time if you are only cooking for one person. I do it just because I love cooking and it gives me pleasure to make something from scratch; especially something as simple as garam masala or plain white bread. None of my friends believe it when I say that I use only flour, water, sugar, salt, oil and yeast. They feel there must be some secret ingredient or method that is only revealed to Wonderbread.
