Simple Lo Mein 1 Tbs vegetable oil (peanut, etc) 1 large onion, peeled & chopped 1 tsp minced fresh garlic 3 stalks celery, chopped 1 cup finely-shredded cabbage 1 tsp bouillon powder (your flavor choice) 1 tsp sugar or other sweetener 2 tsps cornstarch 1 cup water 1 Tbs soy sauce (or to taste) Freshly-cooked noodles (linguine, spaghetti, etc), drained In a large wok or pan, heat oil medium hot. Add onion, and stir-fry until softened. Add garlic, celery, and cabbage, and stir-fry until softened (crisp-tender). In a cup, mix bouillon powder, sugar, and cornstarch into water. Add this to pan gradually, stirring constantly until sauce becomes thickened. Mix in soy sauce. Serve immediately over hot, cooked noodles. VARIATIONS: Add or substitute other vegetables. Add tofu, seitan (gluten), etc. Use different flavors of bouillon powder. Garnish with chopped nuts, etc. Drizzle with hot oil or hot sauce.
