Try a little liquid smoke (start with a couple of drops very strong)

or you you could make TVP "Bacon"
7 oz boiling water
1 cup TVP
1 tsp liquid smoke
1 tsp mayple syrup
1 tsp goya ham seasoning(optional)

Combine all ingredients except TVP and mix well then stir in TVP.
For crispy crumbles saute in oil until lightly browned.
