In that case, press the fresh tofu under a weight for several hours. This will render it somewhat more receptive to the intrusion of a flavored liquid.

Put it into the desired marinade immediately after releasing it from the pressing. It should soak up quite a bit -- although not as much as would the frozen tofu.
