After soaking 12 hours, they should have cooked up tender. Strange... Next time you do a batch of beans, try using the quick-soak method (just to see if it helps the situation). --- Quick-Soak Method (replaces overnight soaking) Put the beans in water to cover + 2". Bring to a boil. Boil them hard for 15 minutes. Turn off heat, cover, and let soak 1 - 2 hours. Drain, and replace water to same level. Bring to boil, boil 15 minutes, then turn down to medium simmer, and cook, covered, until tender (about 1 & 1/2 hours). Hope that helps!
