I am all for a raw food diet. I understand the theory and can see the rationale. However, my concern especially in the American Culture, having an adult raised on american cuisine, turn suddenly into a raw foodist. What happends to the bowels? Can they tolerate such a drastic change without complications? should we easily transition? I actually have been living off of 90 percent raw food for some time. Now, I am experiencing severe upper and lower GI issues, at 35. I live an extremely fast paced, high stressed life working in healthcare and full time college and research. I thought I was eating healthy: juicing, primarily fruits and veggies, but now what is happening. I eat very little to no grains and now my docs are saying: eat the insoluable fiber. My bowels need it. I am wondering, perhaps I transitioned too quickly, perhaps my body cannot tolerate a 100 percent raw food. I am really interested in knowing how to transition safely and in a healthy manner.
