I think it depends on which medium you prefer. With a blog, most people are less likely to sit down and read an essay-length post. But with essays, it's harder to get the stuff out to the masses. :)

I've been blogging (in general) on different blogs since 2003, so blogging is a part of my life now, I guess. I enjoy the medium very much. I wouldn't do it if it started becoming a chore or something stressful in my life.

But it's not for everyone. You may be more of a book writer type person...
