Hiya Justin

I have a blog and i also write essays, which I email to those
interested (my subscriptions have increased a lot just by word of
mouth; I now have about 300 readers). I've noticed that blogging is
somewhat different than essay writing in that many blog readers
often times do prefer briefer but more frequently published
messages rather than the longer essay. I often run into difficulty
because, like you, I like writing more in depth essays and I
constantly edit my writing to accommodate the typical blog writing
style.

However, it IS possible to publish essays in a blog format. You will
attract those readers who prefer essay styled writings. It's just a
matter of preference.

As for time, essay writing takes more time, but you get faster at it
as you get more practice and as you understand your "audience"
more. They have their place in getting your word out.

Michael Billington writes essays and publishes them on his website.
I enjoy reading them very much. Sarah and Via often write briefer
blogs, but they can get pretty long, too, and I enjoy them very
much.

So, why not try blogging, but put it in the framework that you are
more comfortable with--less frequent, in depth essays? Give it a
try and adjust as necessary. I'd love to read what you have to say!
