The body will convert protein into carb IF you eat insufficient quantities of carb. Classically, body builders eat a high percentage of total calories from protein, hence they must utilize this caloronutrient as a source of fuel. The conversion takes considerable time, and means that those athletes miss out on the opened glycogenase window that follows exercise.
