I am aware that due to the glycogenase flooded into the system that a post exercise meal will aid recovery due to the increased absorbtion rate of carbs. However, I am wondering about whether this, or perhaps another enzyme, does the same for proteins?
It appears that a lot of body building websites talk about taking protein as well as carbs - though of course they want everyone to use everything as powdered and reformed as possible, as if no creature ever made any kind of gain without such methods.
Is there any scientific basis for the consumption specifically of proteins following a workout? I have attempted to reasearch this a little and have basically found lots of drug companies trying to tell me it will decrease catabolic hormones and aid muscle growth.
I was just wondering if anybody with any knowledge of this from a healthy perspective could shed any light.
Many thanks,
Leto
