Today is my third day completely raw. First, let me tell you that I have started this 'diet' because it makes sense to me that our food should come from the ground, not from factories. I have no pre-existing health conditions, not even allergies or so much as a cold in the past three years so I already consider myself healthier than most Americans but I do have a little excess weight to lose and I know that is a sign that I’m not as healthy as I should be. So my reason for doing this is better health in the long-term (weight loss, cancer prevention, etc). I’m a 21 yr old, 5 foot 3 inch female weighing 135 lbs. I’m relatively active when I’m at college but I’m home for a month now with no access to exercise facilities and in the freezing cold Pocono mountains where I don’t spend much time outside at all, so I guess you could qualify me as sedentary for the time being.

Anyhow, to the point. The first two days eating this way, I felt as I normally do (which is quite good), but this morning I woke up and felt like a truck hit me—it was as if I’d eaten a very high fat meal and drank a lot of alcohol the night before, I just couldn’t get out of bed. I usually sleep from 11pm to 6 or 7am but today I didn’t wake up until 10 o’clock! I slept almost 12 straight hours last night (after almost no physical activity yesterday other than walking my dog) and I’m still very tired as I type this (it’s just a lazy sort of feeling, not a weak one). For breakfast yesterday I had a pint of blackberries and one of red raspberries, 4 clementines for a snack, some celery for another snack, a salad of romaine and iceberg lettuce with some tomatoes and white mushrooms for dinner with about 15 cherries and a banana afterward, and a smoothie before bed made of pineapple, an orange, and a handful of blueberries. Am I doing something wrong that’s making me feel this way? Am I detoxing? I have no other physical complaints, other than being lethargic (although, I think I’ve only had one bowel movement in the past 3 days, which very unusual for me, b/c I typically have one or two a day). Before eating this way I was a Mcdougaller for several years so I typically ate oatmeal for breakfast, munched on raw veggies (broccoli, peppers, celery, carrots) throughout the day, and had a cooked dinner of different sorts of steamed veggies, with either brown rice or baked potatoes, and multigrain bread.

Sorry this was so long. If anyone else has experienced the same thing and can give me some insights as to how to have more energy, or how long it’ll last, etc, I’d really appreciate it. Also, are there any of you who don’t live in warm areas like Cali or Florida? If so, how do you guys afford to eat this way? Switching from oatmeal and potatoes which are less than $1 a lb to fresh fruits, I feel like I’m spending so much money since it’s the winter right now. I rely on farmers markets in the summer but right now, they aren’t selling anything other than apples and potatoes. Any tips to cut costs? Veggies tend to be cheaper, can I eat more veggies and less fruit, or is that going to prevent me from getting 8-1-1? If not, do grocer’s give you a break if you buy fruit in bulk?

Thanks again.
