we used to always get fruit flies with our organic bananas here in st. louis. A couple of years ago they started coming with a plastic wrap around the top where the babanas are attached to each other. I read an article that pesticides can be embeded in soft plastics. Well I have noticed that we haven't had friutflies with our babanas for a few years. When we get them with other fruits I have used a screen bowl I think usually made for picnics and it helped keep them from reaching swarm levels.
