As far as composting on my own, I do not think I can since i live in a apartment and have no way of having a outdoor place for a bin. However giving it to organic farmers may work since there are a few here in town. I will try the bay leaf suggestion and see if that helps reduce these critters.
Keep up the excellent work on your site Janie, it has been a great resource for me!
