Hello. DH and I want to transition from SAD to raw. Today he told me to go buy RAW stuff so we can be raw starting tomorrow. DH and I are both SAD, along with our 3 young daughters. Twice he's been 100% raw with me Mon-Fri and then flopped on Saturday. Normally by Friday we are feeling great and say that we should stay raw, but something always happened on Saturday for us to eat cooked (outdoor BBQ, family gathering, etc). He is the meat and potatoes man. I first heard of food combination from Harvey and Marilyn Diamond's "Fit for Life" (don't mix starches and protein & eat fruit on an empty stomach). In 1996-1997 (7-8 yrs ago) I did the Hallelujah Acres' Hallelujah Diet. I was 85%+ raw. I incorporated green smoothies and fresh extracted juices into my diet. I remember feeling like I could continue on eating that way for the rest of my life. Well, into my 2nd pregnancy in 1999 I went back to SAD. Money got really tight for us and I stopped purchasing fresh produce. We ate lots of bread, pasta, potatoes, Ramen noodles, etc (stuff that was VERY cheap). Now here we are, we have three children and both DH and I are overweight. I can't seem to get on and stay on the RAW bandwagon. I find that I catch myself wanting to eat with the children. Their staples are PB&J and beans and rice. Do you think that they'll gradually change their diets to eat more like us? They are 3, 5 & 7 and we homeschool. I plan on still cooking for them as I'm scared to change their diet so quickly. They always eat some fruits and veggies, but I don't think they eat enough to sustain them. I recently purchased items from two other "Raw People". Lots of the recipes are full of nuts, especially the transitional recipes. Desserts are mostly nuts and dried fruit or dates. I'm not big on nuts, especially being overweight. I really enjoy avocado, but do I really need to eat nuts or avocados? I weigh as much as I did in the last trimester of my pregnancy. My body isn't lacking fat. I wish I found this site first and spent my money on Dr. Doug Graham's info. I did try a Raw Soup recipe and really enjoyed that. I ate that every other day until my blender quit on me. I no longer have a blender anymore. I burned it out. Too many smoothies and raw soups. I've resorted to putting things through my Green Star juicer and then remixing together, or in the case of frozen fruits just using the blank screen. DH has never heard of 811rv. What is the one thing I should spend money on- book, DVD or ?. What would be the most helpful/informative for us. We don't have much money to spend on more RAW books as right now we are swamped with spending money to purchase new homeschooling curriculum for next year. I think I'm learning from reading Tori's questions right now and browsing this forum. Where else may I find information on 811rv? We are so exhausted. I'm lacking energy majorly. I've been low energy for a while but now it's like I have NONE. I've always been athletic but now I don't even have the energy to do anything atheltic. DH and I both know that it's due to my diet. It's taking a toll on my whole life. I desperately need to change my diet. We both need to get more active for the first time in our lives we aren't doing any physical work. He sits behind a desk all day. Any tips on what fruits or veggies give the most energy? any other tips or ideas. Thanks. (sorry if this is all jumbled, I'm in a hurry)
