Jamie,

I ask myself similar questions everyday, and wonder why it is that people promote foods and substances that are observably harmful and toxic to our bodies, but I've found that, for myself personally, it isn't a productive exercise to dwell too much on other people’s motives.

One of my cousins is in medical research, but he's lucky in that his research is privately funded so he does not have to do what others expect him to do, and is free to follow his ideas to their logical conclusions.

He and I have long chats about ethics and how important they are for the present and the future generations. One of the "hot topics" at the dinner table whenever I visit home is how the drug companies are behaving more like drug pushers, and are out there promoting their products, keeping their focus on the bottom line, regardless of the known negative consequences of their products. I see parallels in the natural and raw foods industries as well.

Prescription drugs are a billion dollar industry. Imagine if people smartened up and became self-referral rather than object referral.... All of these industries would collapse, and that isn't something that will be allowed to happen, at least not without a fight.

The fundamental problem we face is that we are literally talking to…addicts.

Food addicts. Not only addicted to the food, but addicted to the entire worldview that goes along with the food....and goes along with all of civilization. I think that sometimes people intuitively understand this and realize that all of this goes way beyond food, and that it speaks to their very lifestyle and how they relate to the world and its creatures. And sometimes they use replacements to handle this...personally I feel that substances like cacao fall into this category.

And when you talk to people about giving up their addictions, and changing their worldview, sometimes you elicit anger, no matter how you present the message.

The more energy we have and the healthier we are, I feel, the more ideas and inspiration we discover as far as how to do this.

There are some ways of presenting the message that will appeal to some but will result in backlash and anger in others, and vice versa.

So it's always a dance and a challenge to work on tailoring and modifying ones approach depending on the individual.

I am looking forward to meeting you and your wife at fitness week...:)
