I've lost weight on the raw vegan diet. I find it easiest to loose weight when I do not eat any overt fats like nuts, seeds, avocados, durians, olives, etc. As for the bananas, it depends. I go through times when they do not work well with me and others when they do. In general, for weight loss, it is about calories taken in verses the amount of activity done. Bananas are higher in calories than juicy fruits like tangerines, oranges, pineapple, etc., and so I think the high calories in the banana is the issue and not the banana itself. But more than calories are at play as weight loss happens when the body is healing and letting go. I often do not loose weight for weeks and then in one or two days drop 5 pounds. So this is definitely a process. Work towards 80-10-10 raw vegan using whole foods (no spices, supplements, dehydrated foods, frozen foods, juices), exercise, get plenty of rest, keep stress at a minimum, let go of what is draining, and weight loss will happen--that is what works for me. Oh, and eating plenty of greens like romaine and celery is also important. I follow most fruit meals with greens. As far as which raw ideology to follow, that is something that you will have to determine for yourself. 80-10-10 works in the long term and all the others seem to be for the short term--that is what I have found in trying "the eat anything as long as it is raw approach," the Rainbow Green, supplements and super foods, etc. As far as going to all raw foods or transitioning, I think transitioning is a part of the process and you will find your own process and discover what works for you. You can try going all raw and see how that works and you can try transitioning slower too using the suggestions others have posted.
