Inorganic minerals in sea water are not assimilable like the organic minerals in plants. It requires action from bacteria that live on the root hairs of plants to convert those minerals into useable forms. Most people who live in the tropics will explain to you that it is more difficult for them to be fruitarian because of the amount they perspire, which, btw, has also been shown to be fallacious. The human body is extremely good at developing the ability of conserving sodium. How much sodium do you think you consume when you go into the ocean? When I am in the tropics, I almost always choose to go in fresh stream water rather than salt water. In our two months in Costa Rica this winter, I will likely go in fresh water every day, but only go into the ocean two or three times... As for "getting something" from ocean water, it is important to remember that ocean water is the most polluted environment on the planet. Heavy metals, all drugs, all chemicals, and all toxins find their way into our seas. If you are anywhere near a coastline when tasting sea water, you are also getting a goodly dose of human waste.
