Good topic....I can't claim to have a thoroughly comprehensive perspective, but this wide divergence of opinion is not unique to the raw foods approach. It makes me think of how ignorant mainstream medical professionals are when it comes to nutrition. When just starting out on the raw foods path, I recall having my (former) physician tell me that there just wasn't enough.....and here she paused to try to find the words for what she felt to be missing from the raw diet....'stuff' was all she could come up with. Meanwhile she sat before me with rotting teeth and a lunchmeat sandwich & pastry in front of her, and she would from time to time, take smoke breaks. It's the same with religion and other things closely connected to the emotions. Otherwise highly intelligent people can harbor the most skewed, conflicted ideas and beliefs. Personally, I have not heard of long term success at a 100% raw approach with anything other than what Dr. D. is advocating. To me, the lack of consensus is not surprising. Maybe it should be though, given that thoughtful human beings have been feeding themselves (and suffering the consequences) for many thousands of years. As with so many things, consensus is the exception and not the rule.
