Dr. D., I don't want to sound lame, but I still need to learn some things, so I hope you can put my mind at ease. I read in a Boutenko raw food book that we cannot absorb nutrients much at all in cooked foods because of the thick layer of mucus in our stomachs protecting us from those toxins. She says if we go 100% raw, then we can absorb at best 30%, yet if we go even 98% raw, it is plummeted down to like 3% because we aren't giving our stomachs enough time to get rid of the mucus. But, her diet and other raw foodists' consists of non-raw oat groats, and various other things and dried additives. I betcha no one buys 100% raw everything. Are even commercial olives totally raw? If so, that'd be great. Anyway, my main question is that if I buy commercially dried vanilla pods and fine carob powder that is probably heated above 115 degrees because of the speed involved to grind it, will my body need to produce mucus in the stomach to handle even these tiny additions to my diet? And, if that mucus arrives, will my nutrient absorption rate truly plummet and take several days to clear up? What about commercially dried figs (without sulfur added) and dates too? Thanks,
