RDA's create a "micromanaged" situation that completely takes your eye off of the relationship of healthy eating to nutrition and focuses it on individual nutrients. Attempting to eat based on individual nutrient consumption creates chaos in the world of nutrition, forces you to eat similar foods all year round, and to forego the wonderful beauty of eating variety as it is served up by Nature. Pumpkin seeds may be a great source of zinc, but in nature you would only find them in November. Let's get real about nutrition. Optimum nutrition should be secured by eating the optimum foods of man. If that won't do it, nothing else will. As Fred alludess, eating dairy or meat to get calcium or iron is crazy because they don't have the other nutrients we need. So you end up eating this for that, and the next for the other. Nutrition doesn't have to be that complicated. Eat nutritious food and become well nourished. Live healthfully for optimal use and development on the nutrients you consume. I define nutritious food as: whole, fresh, ripe, raw, organic, fruits and vegetables. Simplicity at mealtime, diversity in the diet. As you may know, I recommend a low-fat raw vegan approach. Dr D All raw, all the time, count on it.
