I've been wearing makeup since I was a young teenager. As the years went by, I couldn't imagine not wearing it out in public. I was convinced that I looked just awful without it. When my health declined and my facial skin got worse, I used plenty of makeup to cover it all up. It seemed like the more I wore, though, the worse my skin got.

When I started raw, my skin gradually began to improve. At this same time, I started to become aware of the chemicals in skin products and cosmetics, and wanted to move away from them. I started using only cosmetics from the health food store. I naturally progressed to using less and less. Now I use very little (no foundation anymore!), and what I do use is still mostly out of habit. I'm sure the next progression will be to give them up all altogether. Well, almost...

I do still have one problem that I feel requires the use of cosmetics. I have very dark circles under my eyes. I mean, they are black. I've had dark circles for so many years, and I was hoping they would eventually go away as my health improved. I know they can be caused by lack of sleep, which is something I've been diligently working on getting more of. But until they go away, if they do at all, I will probably always wear some kind of concealer to cover them up. Otherwise, I look like the walking dead! On the few occasions I have not worn makeup to cover them, I've had people ask me if I'm tired or sick.

My ultimate goal is to someday stop wearing any makeup. Like many things, sometimes it just takes time! :)
