Humans are tropical beings. Human food therefore has its roots in the tropics. Even if you wandered north in the summer, or south (if you live south of the equator) you would not be near apple trees in apple season, as it is just too cold, especially at night. You would already have begun your migration back towards the equator.
It is my belief that a naked human living in nature would never see a ripe apple. The fact that they are edible does not make them a perfect food for humans. Many people find them difficult to digest, at best. I do not personally shun them, but only eat a few a year, when other foods are not available.
