Remember that a man generally eats 50% more than a woman. An active man may eat double, triple, or more, than a sedentary woman. Tour de France riders often eat 14,000 calories per day. My mom barely eats 1000 calories per day.
So when someone says 30 bananas, look at who is saying it, as well as what else they are eating. If Janie ate nothing but bananas one day, she might well eat 30. It would likely take me closer to 40 or 45 to be fully satiated, if that were the only food I was eating, depending on my activity level.
There are plenty of ladies who would find 20 per day totally sufficient to keep them happy and meed their caloric needs. Add in the bounty of other foods available and banana consumption would go down. There are many days that I don't eat a banana.
