Yes, yes, yes, you are right to suspect iodine deficiency about Doug's swelling. And, unfortunately, the issue is further illustration of Doug's willingness to lie. I figured this out some time ago. That is no allergy. It is a symptom that has waxed and waned over time with Doug. When asked about it on this very forum a few years ago, he dismissed it as a genetic condition. I looked into the issue myself and found that there is no genetic condition like that whatsoever. He made that up merely because he couldn't admit that he was suffering an ailment that he either didn't understand or didn't want to admit to. Incidentally, it was not his thyroid but his salivary glands that were swelling, although it's probable that his thyroid was irregular as well without being visible. It turns out that the salivary glands concentrate iodine at an even higher level (which means they need even more per weight) than the thyroid gland and will swell in the presence of deficiency. Vegans and vegetarians are as wise to supplement iodine as B12. Meat eaters too, btw. Look into it.
