Michele,

You ask GREAT questions!!!

In fact, I’ve asked myself the very same questions!

How do you Wake Up someone who is in Denial?

How do you tell the Heroin Addict that his Drug of Choice is Killing them when they already think that their Drug of Choice is worth the price?

Indeed, it is almost impossible to Wake Up someone in Denial!

So the best thing to do to prevent people from Shutting Down their Frontal Lobe is to tell our story in a Parable Format - that way they can understand all of the ramifications without knowing what it is that’s causing their problems. As Nietzsche once said, “He who has a strong enough WHY can bear almost any HOW.” Once they understand the WHYs, then we can tell them the HOWs.

So we can help people from Running to Denial, but once they’re in Denial, it’s hard to get their attention. Of course, Doug and Harley are perfect examples for how our Selective Memory works and we’re witnessing that right now with Harley who can’t even remember all the things that you guys are throwing in his face.
