Dr. Doug, I have spoken to you at raw foodie events in the
past and asked you what you thought about stem cell for nerve
regeneration. 58 year old female, S/P Rt. Foot Drop (1994)
with a decompression done then. 4 years earlier I had a
microdisectomy. I am not looking for a reversal of foot drop.
I have taken so many falls in the last 20 years I stopped
counting. 3 months ago I took a really bad fall and was
incapacitated with pain like I have never known. After MRI's
etc it shows I have almost no discs left and a scoliosis has
developed and the nerves are being impinged so I am getting
"electrical currents" down my right leg. This is not a case of
sciatica but ever so much worse. In the meantime, I have tried
to adhere to as much low fat raw vegan as possible, most
certainly whole food, low salt, vegan, as well as Iyengar Yoga
and bicycling. Now bicycling is too painful, I am going nuts
and they insist the only viable solution is a fusion at two
levels. I have an inversion table, and am in water as much as
I can.
My question to you ..is there some way I can "rebuild" the
disc so they support the vertebra that are "crashing" in on
the nerves? Is there anything I can do short of surgery? I am
backed up into a corner. I cannot tolerate the lack of
activity I have been reduced to (even standing and walking is
impaired) I am terrified of a fusion on for many reasons, it
is a big surgery. I am concerned if I have a fusion the levels
above will get weak and the same thing will keep happening.
Thanks so much, I stay hydrated which helps.
