i think i've only heard dr d saying anything to that
effect to people who have trouble eating enough food
to sustain themselves, especially those who are new
to the diet.

having eaten mostly processed food, most people's
stomachs are not developed enough to accommodate the
bulk of whole fruits and vegetables. eating somewhere
between "all you care for and all you can" is an
effective way to train the stomach.

fruit being high in water content and fiber, is a
low-calorie food per bite.
