Subject:         Water retention Question for Dr, Graham
Date: May 29, 2014 at 12:15 pm PST

Hello Dr. Graham (and others :)),

I have been on a 811 high raw diet for over a year now and on a 811rv diet for a little over two months. I have had no salt/sodium at all (other than what is naturally in fruit and veggies) for over a year. I have not eaten overt fats in over a year either. I am learning to eat enough fruit to have no cravings at all and to feel enough energy in the mornings to really push myself with weights and cardio exercise most days of the week. I know deep down that this is the right way to eat and live. My question is that evening doing all this I am experiencing major water retention/water weight issues. What tends to happen is that I will be ok for a few days and then all of a sudden I begin retaining so much water even in the abdomen, which makes it hard to eat because it causes stomach issues. I can gain as much as 10-15 lbs in water weight in a single day and I am a relatively small person (5ft 4in, small frame, average weight when not swollen about 107lbs) I know you are not a fan of intermittent fasting, but this tends to cause me to resort to that because after a while I cant stand the water weight and retention so I fast until my stomach goes down and then it starts all over. I feel so trapped. Is this normal for the body to retain water and swell a bit as it heals itself? Should I not fast but push through it? Any suggestions? I do live in a very dry, hot and polluted area (Phoenix AZ). I drink at LEAST 6-8 liters of water a day (or more sometimes) because I am so dehydrated. If I do not drink enough water in the day I get migraine headaches. I also only feel good until about noon every single day and then have a low grade fever and am ill feeling the rest of the day. I was assuming it is just my body tying to healing itself. Any thoughts? I am so sorry to write so much. I just really want to do this diet right and start feeling better. I have three children and want to be well for them. We do hope to move before too much longer out of the polluted city. Thank you, thank you for all your time and help. You are such a blessing!!

Krista
