Subject:         Acetone in fruits?
Date: May 20, 2014 at 5:46 pm PST

This pas week, I have bough several packages of fresh pomegranate seeds. They
all smelled and tasted strongly like acetone. I bought both organic and
conventional packages. Since pomegranates are out of season, I assume the
seeds are over ripe. But I have eaten tons of pomegranates in my life, and have
never had one tasting like acetone when I have bought the whole fruit. Sometimes I get muskmelons that smell and taste like acetone as well.

So two questions; why the acetone taste? And would it be toxic to eat
pomegranate seeds if they taste like acetone?
