Hey :)

1. A fashionable look? It's the millions of year old
look of a human foot!

2. Barefoot running is increasingly popular yes, but
it's more like heel shoe running has been
increasingly popular for the last 50 (to some
hundred years I guess) years, while barefoot running
is, again, millions of years old...

The way I see it you got a bad gait because you are
wearing shoes, you land heavy because you are
wearing shoes. If you were barefoot you would be
more sensitive upon landing, learn to balance your
footstrike, develop muscles to support your
walking/running and develop a better gait over time
naturally! It's difficult to take feedback from our
feet and adjust our angles, how we walk etc if we
are wearing shoes that literally block out the
environment, pad our feet and support us like

Vibram might have made some illegal claims that the
shoes themselves strengthen feet, and of course
that's not the case! The feet themselves strengthen
themselves, vibrams are just not in the way of that.
Just like no medicine can ever heal the body, and
likewise fruit does not heal like some people think,
but it's just not "in the way" of the healing to the
same degree as cooked foods for example.

My opinions...
