You may well be missing several pieces of the puzzle you wish to complete.
2000 calories may not be enough, you are correct. You might have to eat 2200, or even 2400.

I have no idea what exercises you are doing, but you seem to mention gaining size and gaining strength as if they were synonymous. They are completely different things, and require completely different protocols. Which do you hope to achieve, or do you want both?
