Not knowing details makes responding somewhat challenging, but typically people find that pain reduces dramatically on 80/10/10, yes.
Are you speaking of gaining fat, or muscle? For fat, simply eat more fruit and more vegetable. For muscle gains, perform exercises that you can repeat in the range of 15-25 repetitions. If you can do more than 25, the resistance is not enough. If you cannot manage 15, the resistance is a bit too high.
