Source and explanation unknown?

People eating a starch based diet, and those who include starches in their diet, usually eat at least some processed starchy foods. Many of these have been enriched with B vitamins, including B12. Essentially, the entire public is supplementing with B12 on a regular basis, hence the "normal" value of B12 is unnaturally skewed to the high end. Those of us who don't supplement may show lower values, but that does not mean we are functioning outside of healthy ranges.
