Good questions, the answers to which I discuss in depth in Nutrition and Athletic Performance, and in further detail in Prevention and Care of Ahtletic Injuries.
If you don't use salt, don't use it for sports either. You don't need it.
Preparing for a .5 marathon is somewhat different than preparing for an ultra, but in both cases, basic 811 will get you there.
Eat and drink during the race the same as you do in your simulations for the race, the same as you do in your training.
