Subject:         Salt for runners? Eating for runners

Dear Dr. Graham,
I wonder, why do runners eat salt before and during running for long distances?
Obviously i don't eat salt, but do i need eat for example celery or something
green and salty during a half marathon, marathon or ultra marathon?
And what do you suggest, what should i eat the day before a half marathon, and
the morning of it? And what about the drinking and eating during the running?
Im in 80/10/10 for six months, i love it, and i started doing sports with this
lifestyle. I have no doubts, that it is the best for me and for my family. It is
incredible how much energy i have, i can run so lot and it is so easy..
