Subject:         Yanis Kouros record beat by Paleo runner (Repost for follow-up by Dr Doug)
Date: December 28, 2013 at 3:40 pm PST

Dr Doug, thank you for evaluating further my earlier post,
with the added details below. I just have a very hard time
accepting that Yanis Kouros record can be taken down by
someone who is not thriving...

Read full details of his diet here:

Sure, he includes carbs in his diet, but he is still
very far from 80/10/10 if he usually gets 50% of his
calories from fat!

Quote 1: "Iíve been following OFM for about two
years. Itís a program started by Peter Defty. It
really revolves around the concept of when youíre
training, you eat a high-fat, lower-carb, moderate-
protein diet and you try to use carbohydrates
strategically. If Iím training a ton, Iíll eat a lot
of carbs, but still lower than what you would
traditionally expect from a distance runner and then
you really key in on the fats as the primary source
of fuel. Then when Iím racing, like I did last week,
if I bring back the carbohydrates, my insulin
receptors are incredibly sharp and responsive to it.
The day before a race, Iíll tend to eat a fairly big
breakfast and lunch and then go a little lighter in
the afternoon or evening. For example, the night
before this race, I had some steak chili and a sweet
potato and cottage cheese."

Quote 2: "After protein and carbohydrates, the rest
of my calories, of course, come from fatóoften more
than half my daily calories. Just as with protein
and carbohydrates, I pay close attention to the
types of fats I consume. I take in approximately 50
percent of my fat as saturated fat.... The remaining
50 percent I try to make mostly monounsaturated fat,
with very little coming from polyunsaturated fat
