I'd eat some dates, raisins, or dried figs with my apples, if you are still eating apples. I would be highly motivated to learn to keep enough fruit in the house so that I always had a plentiful supply of ripe bananas, persimmon, pears, and mangoes. Typically you need about a 10-day supply of such fruits in the house in order to be confident that you will always have sufficient quantity of ripe fruit.
