The answer might be different on different days.
Eating a little fruit before running will likely work, unless you are going to really push for speed and endurance.
Not eating at all might work well, depending upon what, when, and how much you had for your dinner meal, and how well trained you are.
You might be able to eat a full meal and still do strength training.
There is no hard and fast rule to follow.
