Dear David,

sorry to hear of your suffering.
I'm not a doctor, but I wanted to mention some things that could be
helpful for you to investigate further yourself.
What is your previous and current diet, exercise, sleep and sunlight
intake? Are you happy with your work and social environment?
Have you had full blood tests? Lacking in certain vitamins and
minerals can cause depression.
Hypothyroidism can also cause depression.
An excess of Omega 6 compared to Omega 3 can cause depression
and eating just fruits and vegetables en masse can help with this
balance.
Fasting can help alleviate depression.
Rigorous exercise can help. Sunlight can help, or if you're in an area
without a lot of sun and you're suffering from seasonal affective
disorder, the light boxes are reported to be helpful.
Do you have meaningful relationships, touch, a sense of purpose in
your life, time in nature. Is there any unhealed trauma?
There are so many kinds of natural therapies that are useful to try
before turning to drugs. Science still knows very little about the
brain and depression.
