Subject:         Softening broccoli,etc

I just read on an old post in 2011 here that using lime juice
to soften kale would work to make it more "palatable." I
don't need to soften kale, but I WOULD LOVE to soften
broccoli. I looked online to see if recipes do this and they
do use lemon juice to marinate but always with salts and
oils, which I don't want to do. I don't want it to be too
acidic/bitter tasting which without the oil seems like a
possibility....

Thoughts?
