I have been living an 80/10/10 diet (mostly raw but still some
cooked starches, mostly steamed potatoes or rice) for nearly a
year. I had begun experiencing bruxism about 2 1/2 years ago
with moderate jaw pain and muscle tension and than was later
diagnosed with muscle tension dysphonia in my vocal cords
(which is speculated to relate tension in the neck muscles
from bruxism). I have been using mouth guards to prevent tooth
damage and more recently the "Smart Guard"
http://www.smartguardnightguard.com/) with some minor
reductions in tension and pain.
I have been told by some dental specialist that i have a
narrow arch in the roof of my mouth which causes mis-alignment
of my teeth and encourages the jaw to 'search' for alignment
during sleep and cause clenching. They have recommended
widening my arch as well as braces to properly align the teeth
as a solution. Is this a good option? If not, how would you
recommend proceeding to eliminate bruxism and the possible
associated issues?
