Hello Dr. Graham,

I recently was asked a question by my son that has stumped me. He knows how I eat and what I believe are the laws of nature. He said: 'what if in 5 years you discovered that everything you believe was false?' I replied that if that were the case then my body would have changed because the body does not lie, it only responds to the laws of cause and effect. I eat the way I do because it feels good and healthy to do so, whereas eating otherwise does not.

To which he said: 'Well then, how do you explain the placebo effect, where what one believes comes true, even though it shouldn't? Perhaps you only feel good and healthy because you believe it to be so, not because your body is responding to the laws of nature?'

Have you ever given this any thought? How would you respond?
